Modem Symptoms
The communications software does not display what I type, or it displays what I type twice.
- Diagnosis : Local echo is set incorrectly.
- More information : There will be a setting somewhere in your software, or possibly your device driver, which controls 'local echo'. If local echo is not set, then the software is relying on the machine at the other end of the connection to handle the whole of the text display. However, the machine at the other end might expect your machine to display text typed at your end of the connection. Therefore if this setting is incorrect you might see either nothing that you type (although it has still been typed and recognised by the computer), or each letter showing up twice. (Although the computer only 'sees' one of each letter) Therefore, if you are seeing nothing, set local echo on. If you are seeing double, set local echo off.
